ok i think making another post about threads is warranted now.
i've been kinda on the fence about this for a while but something i'm not on the fence about is that it's NOT OKAY to use defederation as a way to blackmail other instances into upholding your views. people who block instances purely because they don't also block threads, check your head and realize you're sabotaging the open web.
let me make clear once again that blocking instances should be a choice left to individual users except for the MOST extreme cases.

okay, now that we've got that figured out. the federation of Threads is the fediverse's prime opportunity to get mainstream attention. do we really have enough reasons to burn it?
i'd argue we don't.
that, as long as zuck doesn't try to do the whole fediblock blackmail thing too, but please let's assume good faith. if we throw pitchforks at those who can and want to help the fediverse become the internet's new town square, it won't be, simple as that.

also, fedi is used by people who won't leave for a corporate offering. not wanting to use meta's stuff is why we're all here. fair to assume they won't be able to extinguish it further than they'll have extended it, and therefore that there's nothing to be lost from threads.net federating.

so, at least for now, please chill.
