Mastodon.ie is looking for more mods.

The moderation load is not currently high, but we want more people on the roster so people can take a break. If interested, you can apply by DM.

Applicants will need to be:
- active on Mastodon.ie for over 6 months
- willing to spend time in the moderation channel
- near a phone or computer so you can be on call to take mod actions for at least 2 hours a week

PSA for #MastoDaoine: If you use 2-Factor Authentication (2FA) on your account, we cannot remove 2FA from your account.

2FA involves using an authenticator app to provide another factor of verification, as a supplement to your password.

We recommend:
• using an authenticator app with cloud backup
• storing your recovery codes in a safe place, in case you lose access to your authenticator app

Apps that support cloud backup include Authy, Google Authenticator, Bitwarden, and Proton Pass.

You may notice sluggish performance this evening, mods are aware. It's likely just a lot of people being on.

We can have some buttons pressed tomorrow to widen the series of tubes if the need persists.

We've received a few queries about Direct Messages (DMs) on Mastodon. Let's try to clear a few things up.

On Twitter, DMs are stored unencrypted on Twitter's infrastructure.

DMs sent to/from users on Mastodon.ie are stored unencrypted on our infrastructure — and in the case of a DM sent to a user on another instance — on that infrastructure too. This is similar to Twitter, but an important differentiation to make.
