Americans do not realise that the world economy entails more than iPhones and cars - much of it consists of money. Lots and lots of money. And guess what the EU (and the rest of Europe) has a lot of?

Imagine the shockwaves once the Norwegian pension fund starts to treat the US as the pariah that it is. That's the largest wealth fund in the world, over $1.7 trillion, owning 1.5% of all publicly listed shares in the world (!).

The display is from 2017 so is G-Sync-only - it doesn't have Freesync.

Again, Americans have no idea what's begun here. The Netherlands alone is one of the largest investors in the US, and as public sentiment here against president Musk and figurehead Trump deteriorates even further, those investments will shrink. The long-term effects will be crippling.

@xenotar HP-UX 11.11 (or 11i v1). I've got the last PA-RISC workstation they ever made, in 2004. Two dual-core 1Ghz PA-RISC processors.

If you're interested in operating systems, I cannot recommend it enough to get access to a classic UNIX system, like HP-UX or whatever. You have no idea how much I've been learning just through trying to make an outdated operating system do (modern) things.

I've learned more these past few weeks than I have in a decade before.

So apparently Dell has utterly locked down fan control on the XPS 13 9370. This means that despite having a completely functional Linux fan control setup and having created a much saner fan curve based on temperatures, I can't actually use it because the BIOS will override it.

This can't be disabled.

@grunfink Hmmm, I have a whole bunch of modern headers to modernise the dev environment, so I can at least give it a go. I'm 99.9% sure it will not work, but trying takes like five minutes so there's nothing to lose.

You know how insufferable people always bring up that "WeLl AksHuaLlY macOS is UNIX!!1!!"

Setting aside it's only UNIX 03-certified, there are some major caveats to macOS' UNIX certification. There's a little appendix all the way at the very fucking end of Apple's conformance statement, and it's a fucking doozy. In order for macOS 15.0 to pass all of the required test suites and be UNIX 03-certified, you need to:

• enable core file generation
• disable System Integrity Protection
• disable timeout coalescing (it causes bugs)
• enable the root user (disabled by default)
