I've watched twice this John Oliver show about corn. Eye opening and entertaining, for sure.

@therobburgessshow @michaelgemar In all Mastodon discussions I've seen nobody said seriously: "I wish the shooter guy aimed better. That might tamper the Nazi problem we have in the US." Kudos to all y'all! Good guys finish last for a reason - the asymmetry of responses and actions. Imagine the negative things trAmp or other Republicans would say and do if a good guy got shot at. Do assholes deserve to be treated nicely? They don't but we do it anyway to our detriment. Yep. Life is not fair.

"Surveillance, as we’ve seen, is complicated. It’s traditionally thought of as a government activity, but it’s also widely practiced by the private sector, with at best a blurry and permeable barrier separating the two. It’s an inextricable part of every modern political state, a highly profitable business, and a perpetually lurking threat to democratic self-government."

"In a 2024 Women in Tech survey, 72% of women reported experiencing a prevalent “bro culture” at work leading to microaggressions ranging from being spoken over during meetings (64%) to being asked to “supply the food” for meetings (11%). Other research quantifies how women, no matter their seniority, are often treated like a junior-level worker yet they also receive less support, are more likely to be laid-off and less likely to be promoted, and so on."
