@180 Kurt always liked promoting those who influenced him, so maybe that was one reason he said it. He also seemed pretty self-conscious about his skills, too. He shouldn't have been!

@180 I've seen interviews where Kurt was afraid that Nirvana would just be seen as a Pixies rip-off band. Bowie talked about how much he respected the Pixies on several occasions. They inspired a lot of people with their sound, and still do.
