@lain You are not being attacked or anything. Entitled to your own opinions and tastes. Some people I know say she's great, and I've only watched that one Earthsea miniseries adaptation (not all of it) and that one Miazaki Earthsea adaptation, and you know how almost all adaptations are terrible adaptations... that's all.
@lain I've never read a LeGuin (except for listening to Sam Harris's reading of The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas), but I want to. Which one should I start with?
@lain No, lain, I really am asking that question. Why do they keep falling off? Why is that USA aeroplane company rotting? I keep seeing people talk about this or that tattletale getting suicided for talking about his aeroplane company on various networks.
@lain What if someone with an urinary tract infection or similar comes over, splashes some of their infection on your bidet nozzle, and next time you use your bidet to wash your poop hole you get infected yourself? Are my fears unfounded?
@lain The Corwin Saga I loved for its descriptions of Shadow and Pattern walking, it felt like he had first hand knowledge of such "emergent phenomena". The way scenery is described, it felt as if Zelazny was drawing with words one of those traditional minimalist Chinese or Japanese paintings. I didn't think the story itself or the characters were very interesting. The characters all spoke in the same way and felt a bit one dimensional, but they live in an interesting strange world.
The Merlin Saga I just can't stop reading. It's an whodunit pageturner. The main characters talk in a conventional way and each has their own personality. Also, Merlin seems like a mellow kind of guy. Him and Jasra?! That's the most mellowest way anyone was ever depicted in fiction. Oh, and Mandor seems like the stereotypical charming white haired bishounen, like Raistlin or Griffith. I just hope he won't go there… Don't tell me anything, I don't want to know.
@lain Almost finishing The Chronicles of Amber. Started reading Lord of Light a while back but got stuck when he got to the city of gods, right before the marriage ceremony. PKD's UBIK made me feel horrid for a while just thinking about it, existential dread and all that. Should I read Deus Irae anyway?
@lain my true self, minus 12 million years of evolution - 6 million years back in time from humans to the most recent common ancestor and 6 years from the most recent common ancestor to chimps (or bonobo? i can't tell them apart).
