@silverwizard The whole thing just runs really slowly, especially on startup. I don't know if there's some other cause but it was like this pretty much from the moment I got it.
@silverwizard Can you add hardware to it to increase the processing power? I'm planning to take my work laptop to my computer guys to see if that's possible. I got a super cheap laptop about a year ago because the one I'd had for years broke and I didn't pay attention to the specs. 4GB of RAM is *not* sufficient to both run Zoom and play music unless you're cool with a 10-minute startup.
Hello #Disability and #Autism Mastodonians. I am a ballet teacher and I am looking for some advice to help one of my autistic students succeed in class. She is both very visual and tactile and easily overstimulated, and one of the things she does to self-soothe is touch stuff. Unfortunately for me, the things she wants to touch are my laptop, the stereo, the light switches, and the air purifiers, all of which really shouldn't be messed with as they will interrupt class. Would it be beneficial if I provided her with something she was allowed to touch instead, like a boom box not hooked up to anything - something with buttons and switches but which won't cause any disruption to the flow of class? I ran this question by her mother as well, and I'll talk to her about it when I next see her in class, but she is only 7 and is still learning what works for her so I was hoping some other #ActuallyAutistic folks could provide me with some insight.
@silverwizard I've heard that before. Ian Danskin (Innuendo Studios) has a great old video on why people get weird around people who live differently to the mainstream and he also concludes that they feel judged by the existence of people who chose a different path from them.
ballet teacher and expert quoter of Jane Austen. Love my spouse @taliesin(profile pic is a cute cartoon girl with long, reddish brown hair in two braids, wearing a white puffy coat and skinny jeans with tall brown riding boots. She is standing in a grassy outdoor area with the shadow of a tree in the background. She is smiling and waving.)
