I recommend looking up the candidate most likely to beat the Tories in your area and voting for them. Even if they’re a bit shit, because bit shit is better than full of shit.

As we don’t have any kind of proportional voting system, it’s most votes wins.

Even if everyone gets a similar number of votes, the candidate with the highest number just wins.

I'm on an unrestricted variable electricity tarrif.
My price per kwh is about to go negative for 3 hours*

I can get my oven and air con unit to fight each other, and be paid for it!

*it's so windy that there's nowhere to put all the energy the turbines are generating, so they pay (mostly industry) to use it up. The price shoots up in the evening when everyone starts putting their heating on and cooking dinner. People on a fixed price tarriff are paying ~25p/kWh all day in the UK right now.

A friend has just suggested I turn on a humidifier and a dehumidifier to wirelessly transfer water.

Discriminating against enbies is apparently justified in the UK when it’s too much effort not to, according to The High Court. 😡

Putting this out there in case anyone else ends up in a similar situation.

Have you got an IPv6-only internet connection? (Eg. thanks to a dodgy ISP or router)
Have you got a remote server you can SSH to?

Set up an SSH Socks proxy, and you'll be able to access the whole internet via it while you work out what's going on. Or in my case, wait until morning.

here's the ssh command:
ssh -D 65432 -q -C -N user@server

Once it's logged in there'll be no output because you told it to be quiet (-q) and not do anything else (-N). -C compresses the data.

In your computer's network interface settings or your browser's proxy settings:
- proxy server: localhost
- proxy port: 65432
- Socks v5

When your internet is fixed or when you're troubleshooting it, remember disable the proxy settings in your network interface and/or in your browser.
