Here is where he was born, the remains of the palace in Tilaurakot, where he was raised, & the east gate of the palace from where he left to seek enlightenment.
(How I had ended up here, a few months ago, is for another day.)
The reason the #Apple *crush everything* ad has received so much backlash is because it emphasises on the #output and not the #process. The same way AI is all about just the output. People who are #mad enough to learn how to make meaningful sounds in the air through metal pieces, or be impoverished for years to construct a page of perfect prose, or dabble with different ways to stroke paint on a canvas, find meaning & purpose in the process, & not so much in the end result.
The blurbs of novels would say "The emotions in the novel are raw & felt by a searing human, not the aped depictions of the human condition by an algorithm!"
The humanities hipsters will showoff how they only read human, wear sustainable, & eat organic.
There will be symposiums on "Pathos, bathos, & melancholia - authenticity and feelings depicting narrative realism in the post-technological world by human and the bot" at the only existing Lit dept somewhere in the world.
Waiting for the section in a #bookstore, which will say, "Organic and artisanal Literature, written by human writers, and not AI" and sold for five times the price of an AI generated book.
And signs that will say "Support your local writer! Buy human generated content!"
Ok should evidently prepare for a bleak future & plan to pivot & start a *human* content generating artisanal company, with sustainability goals through healing crystals, western astrology (New Moon discounts!), & free kambucha. Amen. 🔮
Unemployable and broke Literature graduates will become literary leftists & boycott technology, to buy overpriced Apple quills and parchment as a form of rebellion.
There will be sleeper cells that will generate *imperfect* books on the human condition -- grief, pain, jealousy, angst, melancholia -- that will be circulated underground to rebel against the algorithms, that would have perfected plot & structure after internalising Aristotle's Poetics and your Facebook posts.
Of all the things, the phone SIM card randomly stopped working. No wifi nearby. And thats when it hit -- without a connected phone, no network, no money, no transport, no directions, no OTPs, no banking, damn, no meals. Lost among Muggles without a wand. 🙀
(In defence of the sim card, it had been damaged.)
Nearly every generation has thought its generation was to be the last, and yet the human species has persisted. As a character in Jeanette Winterson’s novel “The Stone Gods” says, “History is not a suicide note — it is a record of our survival.”
Literature/policy/politics. Never caffeinated enough. Jill of many trades. Often document wild adventures in reading + binge-watching. (Posts👇🏽 purposefully useless & stream of consciousness.)
