Alright, you know, I'm went and installed factorio on my VPS, and I'm figuring out how to plug in a Discord bot. I think we can find a few people to pick away at a map if I set a goal like 1000 SPM, and it hopefully would avoid the problems I've had w/ Minecraft servers in the past.

This is arguably a problem with OpenSSH, and it was once fixed by SunSSH, and is masked by Ubuntu specific behavior.
The crash is due to a 10+ year bug in libreadline. The question is it the responsibly of the PTY generator to makesure LC_* is sane.

Tonight, I helped find a bug in libreadline, that required looking to the actual POSIX specification to determine what, if anything, is the sane thing to do if your locale is broken.
This is not the YouTube video I expected to make, but I just uttered the following in #illumos:
[2:50:09 AM] <NCommander> This is getting fairly close the eldritch tomes of lore that AT&T used to forge the One Ring deep in the heart of Murray Hill

Well, I have illumos going on an emulated single core Intel Core 2 Duo, simply because it hangs if there's more than one processor.
I've also got some really fascinating error messages along the way.

What frustrates me is the sheer number of vendors that didn't see this as a problem (or saw it as a feature), combined with ARM refusing to try and even address this problem when AArch64 is released.
It's difficult to say that ARM is a viable competitor in non-embedded spaces when you can't say that you'll be able to install an update six months down the line (and this is sadly not even a hypothetical ...)
