Updated Vivaldi on my Ubuntu laptop befor paying some bills with no problems.

Tried to update Vivaldi quickly on the Ubuntu media machine before starting up some much needed #kdrama after a rough day at work, and it is crawling along like it's using dial up.

At the doctor's office and finding it ironic that there is a sign prohibiting a patient from taking recordings next to a sign sayong that the paractitioner will be using AI to record the appointment.

Talking with my partner, I mentioned new NP. He says he thinks the NP I have issues with isn't at the clinic now, in spite of her name being on the door.

I go online and do some searching, because reducing medical anxiety is good and this would do it.

One of the first hits shows the doctor at the clinic, and lists him working at a local hospital.

Except there is no local hospital with that name. It flat out doesn't exist.

I'm not clicking that further, but 😬.

Different NP, no lecture. Phew.

Now to actually get my health in line...

Also fun that I came in for a sore hand, and they took my blood pressure. I suspect a fun discussion about my weight is about to ensue. (I know my health isn't good, burnout last year means resetting everything. I also know my NP has a tendency to talk down at me a lot and I am not looking forward to this.)

what search engines are people using these days that are reliable-ish?

I am using Startpage, and the results for trying to find info about a health clinic I have been going to for years are crap. I think it might be time to find something else.

I prefer something without AI if at all possible.

Get email saying my credit card statement is available. I decide I should look at this right away before I forget.

Open app. Get notice biometrics has changed (?) and I need to enter password.

Finally remember password. Get asked if I want to enable biometrics. Say yes.

Select relevant credit card.

UI looks like it is trying to load. Vague error comes up saying something has gone wrong and to try again.

I close and reopen app. It asks for password. Re enter password (no biometric scan or prompt to be seen). Select credit card again.

UI struggles to load, vague error message reappears.

Suddenly feel nostalgic for paper transaction books and a physical bank location.

Finally in a mental space where I feel I can start some of the deep disentangling from large tech companies I have been using forever. You know the ones. This has been overwhelming me for a while, so doing some small changes to get momentum to get to where I can complete this. Some movement is hopefully better than no movement.

How are people replacing their Outlook and Gmail email addressed? I may as well start doing my homework on that too.

Anyone got a good alternative to Lens on Android they would like to rec? Found a new translation app already, but Lens is proving a bit more complicated. I'd love to hear what others find useful.
