If you are wondering why I post
so much about politics these days,
Well it's because 1) I deeply care about human rights 2) we live in unprecedented times (again) and 3) because privacy and politics are intrinsically intertwined.
If I can't convince you with this post,
maybe I can with this article: https://www.privacyguides.org/articles/2025/02/03/the-future-of-privacy/
I've watched enough Star Wars
to know how to fight an evil empire 💪
Fear not!
I've got this! ✊ :rebel:
First we need:
☛ A cave hidden on a frozen or sand planet 🪐
☛ A float of cool spaceships with lots of buttons 🚀 🚀🚀🚀
☛ People with laser swords ⚔️
☛ What else? 👀
This is very bad news my privacy and security friends:

New article by me 🔒💚:
No, Privacy is Not Dead.
Privacy is a Human Right,
and it is only dead
if we let it die.
There are 2 mindsets that scare me a lot in data privacy.
In this short article, I discuss
which mindsets we should be wary of and what we should do instead to advance our common objective of improving privacy rights: https://www.privacyguides.org/articles/2025/02/17/privacy-is-not-dead/
If you are staying on a corporate
social media platform because the people you follow are still there, consider others are also staying there because you are still there.
Someone needs to start the move.
Be that person.
Leave X for good.
Leave Facebook forever.
Remember blue skies eventually turn grey.
Embrace the social media that cannot get sold to a billionaire. Embrace the Fediverse 💚

In these troubled times, please remember to be doubly careful about protecting the privacy of others online.
Always ask before sharing any piece of someone else's personal data with a third-party.
This could be as banal as asking a person before sharing their email address with someone else or with some application or service.
Be careful. Sometimes it only takes one small piece of data to reveal an identity and put someone in danger.
Care for the data of others 💚
In information security, we talk a lot about threat from cybercriminals, and indeed this is an important one.
But another big if not bigger threat we should be talking about more is negligence.
Doubly so for data privacy.
My grandfather used to say:
"Even if you don't care about politics, politics is gonna take care of you, regardless."
This couldn't be more relevant today. You can't run away from it by not doing anything about it.
New article by me ⛨✨!
CryptPad Review: Replacing Google Docs
If you have been looking for a privacy-respectful replacement to Google Docs, now is the time to move! 📦
@cryptpad offers a full office suite that is completely end-to-end encrypted and built from the ground up with data minimization in mind.
And it's free! 🎉
Why stay with Google when there is a much better option literally right there👇

I'm so tired I just typed "exitfool" instead of "exiftool" in my terminal,
and now I'm honestly disappointed that's not a valid command.
If you plan on going to a protest this week, be very careful when posting photos of others online. Especially close-ups of identifiable people. Your threat model might not be their threat model.
Whenever possible in context,
ask for consent first.
Privacy is team work! 🔒🙌
Do you enjoy privacy rights?
Because deregulation is how you lose them. Oh and also basic safety, and human rights.

I'm going to have to look at so many cat pics to survive this US administration.
I should probably print some before the internet goes down :neocat_shocked:

If you currently use any corporate social media,
be extremely careful what you are feeding to your brain with.
Everyone think they are immune to manipulation and propaganda, but the truth is nobody is. Not even me and not even you.
Algorithm manipulation works very slowly and it is easier to get caught in it than you think.
Our only defense is to preemptively curate what we feed our brains very carefully. Be very careful what you feed your brain. Favor direct information sources that you trust rather than easy automated feeds and algorithmic recommendations.
Remain vigilant at all time.
I know I'm going to sound biased now,
but this is seriously an amazing article written by @jonah from @privacyguides I would have totally recommended it even 2 months ago.
If you are planning to attend any protests, but especially in the US right now,
