@notjustbikes Just had a thought. Self-driving car software like Tesla's recognize speed limit signs via the car's camera array and adjust their speeds accordingly (+10 KM/H because hey laws are just a suggestion, right?). As autonomous cars become common what if cyclists started wearing jackets with a 20 KM/H speed limit sign printed on the backside? Alternatively print a large orange construction cone on the back since a car is unlikely to give a cyclist space but they are scared of cones.

@thomasfuchs Yeah I'm guilty of upgrading too often back then. I bought the iPhone 13 Pro thinking it would "future-proof" in terms of feeling the need to upgrade because while I was completely content with the XR at the time I did think a 120Hz would be nice. There is absolutely no reason for me to upgrade or even have any new device lust after 3 new generations of releases.

@thomasfuchs You'll have to pry my JamCam 3.0 from my cold dead hands, man. If you lowered the resolution to 320x240, you could get 28 shots on it. That's almost like a roll of film!

@thomasfuchs Happens all the time with regards to things that are completely apolitical as well. How many times have you heard "I will never buy another product from company X because I bought product Y from them 30 years ago and it wasn't very good!"

@TechConnectify @larsmb I like that "Hey I guess we'll have to spend some money to upgrade energy grids. Many of which are in desperate need of upgrades regardless of an increase in demand (see CA wildfires caused by aging grid infrastructure)" is supposed to sound like an impossible way to tackle climate change, but "Let's just create a sci-fi technology to solve all the problems" is supposed to be inspiring.

@thomasfuchs @tolmasky Segways are in the dustbin of tech history, but the tech behind them is still very much being used and iterated on in the micromobility space. Still niche and I'm not sure if it will ever prove necessary when bicycles exist already, but not completely dead.
