    @morph irgendwie finde ich es faszinierend, dass eie ganzen dystopischen Szenarian aus Filmen und Büchern nicht wie erwartet als albschreckende Geschichten dienten sondern als Anleitungen und Vorbilder für die Politik.. rund um den Globus.

    @morph that's a good point with the easy install on hosting services. Also this won't make it useable on the phone per se. IMHO on this front there is definitely more work needed.

    I still like to do geeky stuff but these days it's mostly covered by what I do at work plus some hf radio operation on mountain tops. 😉

    @morph sometimes I miss the geek themed time line from the identica days, too. I always wanted to sort contacts to filter and reproduce that timeline again. I'm not very good at keeping something like this up and tidy.

    I guess it's as with every piece of software that's partially driven by a community, there will always be rough edges and some people just prefer polished silicon valley VC backed software.

    @morph well, TBH software diversity and the size of the community wasn't better back in the Identica /StatusNet days. Which doesn't make your point less valid. What do you think it would take to make the fedi more appealing to the general public? Certainly it takes more than a logo, right?

    @morph yes, but I'm not sure whether the sad part is that nobody seems to pay proper repect to the real fediverse pioneers or that we're getting old and becoming gray beards telling others to get off the lawn. 😋

    @morph well, in my experience it's difficult to convince anyone to use anything except Whatsapp.  Non-walled-garden approaches seem to make it even more difficult for some reason..

    @morph yeah, I guess you have to use it with regular email contacts to get to chat with anyone. Reaction time might not be as what you're used to in this case, though.

    I just installed #deltachat for the first time. I like the idea of using one of the oldest decentralized messaging systems, email, as base technology for a modern-ish chat app.
    They also provide a minimal email service which simplifies on boarding, called chatmail.

    Anyone using #deltachat regularly? How well does it hold up for everyday use?

    Cyclist, ski mountaineer, unicyclist, Linux and FreeBSD user, IT engineer, ham radio operator - preferably on summits. All of this not necessarily in this order. Studied math and worked as bike messenger in a previous life.... and chatted with people on Identi.ca and then status.net - JFYI to all the fellow graybeards who have been around for ever.
