Hab gerade meinen gesamten Wocheneinkauf in 13 Minuten geschafft.
I got 11/24. Less than half. This is harder than I thought.
When telling people around me I have #ADHD a common reaction is "But you've always had good grades in school/uni"
So let me walk you through my (sadly common) exam prep: I forgot that I had an exam today. It would pop into my head multiple times last week only to go to the "I do this later" mental to do list. Until last night, when my lab partner texted me asking a question about the material.
And I just went to bed, because oh, the exam is only at 9 am, so I can just study on my way there.
And so I woke up around 6.30 this morning, so I just started studying then, right?
Wrong, I scrolled through social media for an hour until my partner called and reminded me that I should study. So I halfheartedly read through my notes during breakfast and on the tram to uni. Not more than half an hour in total. And yet I got a perfect grade. Not just passing, no, perfect.
So it all kind of works, but the flashes of panic in the last few days when I remembered the exam coming up...
All of this is so stressful, because it's not like I'm relaxing, knowing I can do it. But instead it's internally panicking because I didn't study. But whenever I tell people they think I'm just trying to brag or exaggerating.
It might get me good grades, but it's horrible for my mental wellbeing. So along all the other adhd symptoms that affect other areas of my life, it also affects me academically. My grades might not reflect that but my history of burnout probably does.
To the people that find this relatable: were you also told by adults that you're being bullied because people are jealous of your grades, when in reality your peers thought you were "weird" because you are neurodivergent?
If you're an adult still saying this to bullied kids, just stop, it's not helping.
Reminder, mal paar Dinge zu putzen:
eure Wasserflasche(n)
Bettwäsche wechseln
Teppich reinigen
🤍
@inthehands i am currently doing my master in mech engineering and I am so excited by my "general studies" classes, where I have to take something outside of stem. After studying engineering for 6 years already, it's so interesting to see, how other fields approach their research and the topics. But even more to their approach to teaching. In engineering, you often notice a lack of understanding regarding pedagogy and there's many lecturers that don't focus on learning but content only.
