Survival strategy. Think local. Support individuals as much as possible. My price for #eggs? $3/doz for free-range organic. It's a standing arrangement: we pick up a certain amount every Wednesday from a local source. At least it works unless bird flu gets that flock, I guess. But a contingent around town is already working up an informal trade setup for who has best luck with which produce and how to share. Time to buy seeds.

This post is a re-run from last summer. But it's on my mind tonight. I believe the best advice I can give anyone right now is to buy books, learn some stuff, and figure out as much as possible about the skills common in the 30s & 40s. Hint: without a massive change of course, we're going back. Never have I been so grateful for the things my parents made me learn: #gardening #canning basic #repairs

Friends, followers, & bystanders... a plea for #today: do your #will. Document your final wishes, including who is authorized to execute them. Most people think "Oh, I'll get around to that." But so many don't. If you haven't, I beg you to get it done immediately for the sake of your family or whomever could be left with the incredibly complex and expensive mess. PLEASE DON'T DO THAT TO THEM. That is all.

I don't often struggle this much for words. But #today? This past week? .... 💣 💩 💣💥 💩 I've spent 10min scanning posts, blocked at least a dozen fools or trouble-makers, am more depressed than when I opened this platform, and can think of absolutely nothing constructive to say. My head is full of oh-so-helpful thoughts like "To all you self-righteous idiots who didn't #vote, I hope you suffer intensely in what's coming." And I'm just not sure that's gets anyone anything.

@pluralistic UNIX was my college-age intro to all matters computer. Learning an editing & publishing process from the basic operating system built my foundation for *everything*--a foundation that hasn't often failed me since 1984/85-ish. I can't comment on most of the technicalities you're detailing, but I feel personal impact on this one. When I started out, it was proprietary and I'm really glad it didn't stay that way.

Mastodonian friends from #Norway, is this true? #Today I'm debating having this painted on the wall by my desk, but... verification, ya know? 😆 Some of my family came here from Norway, so if this is accurate, I may adopt it as a genetic motto.

I want #summer back. This is my first #winter in 44yrs above the 45th parallel. 😫 Honestly don't know how people in even higher latitudes handle the dark & cold. I guess I did ok when I was a kid, but holy moly. I got UNused to it. And I got a lot older. Just sayin.

I'm still looking for fun things to post, as I think all the grim news is being well covered by others. Memories from my years in the #Carolinas include "Shadow of the Bear," visible in the mountains each fall when the angle of the sun is just right.
