So I'm looking to flash the firmware on my Bluray drive (I happened to have one that works for this) so that it'll unlock some features to make ripping audio tracks much better. The problem is, the firmware that Redump was sharing for this was being hosted ... BY DISCORD. The links are obviously freaking dead.
STOP. USING. DISCORD. TO HOST FILES. FFS.
Twitter. Is. Not. A. Public. Forum. Anymore.
I don't get why so many creators still INSIST on making Twitter their ONLY means of communicating important news. We. Can't. See it anymore. You can't just pull up a Twitter user's page while signed out and get their profile with newest posts on top anymore and you haven't been able to for about a year. Continuing to use Twitter as your only means of communicating with the public is helping keep the Nazi bar alive. Stop.
With more people considering #Linux after the latest #Microsoft #Windows news, here is my advice:
- Before looking at Linux at all, determine what proprietary software you're using in your workflows (MS Office and Adobe stuff being big ones) and try FOSS alternatives on Windows. (LibreOffice, OnlyOffice, Krita, GIMP, Inkscape, kdenlive, etc.) This will very much ease any future transition away from Windows. (1/7)
@lightweight I'm stuck with Discord simply because of who's on it. I want to use Matrix instead, but convincing retro streamers (some are friends) to move is impossible. I already cut them off when I left Twitter, and leaving Discord means cutting them off almost entirely.
It's the same reason people don't leave YouTube or Twitter. I don't like it, but I do understand why people don't just leave. They're leaving *people* behind when they do it. It's not like switching browsers.
What really sucks about switching from Catppuccin to Dracula is that it seems like Dracula Pro's existence has gotten people to stop porting Dracula to things. There are a lot of out-of-date ports that no longer properly work (or only half work.) The fact that Dracula Pro is seen as strictly better but you aren't allowed to share your ports of it because of licensing agreements (I still can't get over the idea of buying a color scheme) means its support isn't anywhere near Catppuccin's.
I really want to just make my own color scheme (actually I've started work on it) but the idea of having to port it to everything I use ... yeah, I don't have time for that.
Search engines: "Not many results contain $word."
Me: "I know. That's why I typed it. To narrow things down to what I need."
Search engines: "... I'm just gonna show you other crap, too."

Once again, web devs: If your site doesn't work on Firefox, it's broken.
