in many Indigenous cultures, there is no precise word for "nature", because you can't separate what was never divided; at least in the way modernity did. western modernity drew a hard line: humans on one side, all the rest on the other. one has reason the other doesn't. one has rights, the other has value. one is subject, the other object. this split made colonialism, industrialism and ecological destruction thinkable.

well, fedinauts. I’m reaching out to ask for help.
My grandmother is dealing with chronic venous insufficiency (likely a thrombus), and in Venezuela we don’t have a functioning healthcare system, so everything has to be paid out of pocket.
We’re currently raising about $200 for exams, medication & transport. Anything you can contribute would mean a lot to us.
If you can’t donate, sharing this also helps ❤️ thank you so much!

for over 500 years, imperial forces have humiliated, kidnapped, and murdered our local leaders to crush resistance and enable the systematic looting of our lands. gold, silver, pearls, coffee, bananas; today, oil: the main fuel of the insatiable monster they created, capitalism
despite massacres, betrayals, and setbacks, we have resisted and we will continue to resist for another 500 years if necessary. for the forest, for biodiversity, for collective life, and for our right to joy

vainas que la gente no entiende: defender a mi país de la agresión extranjera no significa ser leal a un gobierno local, simplemente significa defender la posibilidad de construir la vida colectiva en nuestro propios términos y no en aquellos que nos quieren imponer

someday i must write the story of grandma Terapche. Her father was an indian from the Irapa people, killed by an enemy from the Parirí people. Her mother also passed away in a way too terrible to speak of. Later, as a young girl, only to be kidnapped by Capuchin missionaries who wanted to “civilize” her. What followed, under the care of the nuns, was a chapter of suffering. In all these years I haven't heard anything good from her about the years spent on the mission

chief Peñaranda, a longtime friend, urging the communities to stick together, to face the uncertain future shoulder to shoulder. if we abandon our cultural & ecological resistance the storms ahead will scatter us like leaves in the wind.

Dicen en los cerros lejanos
que en los bosques sin fin
una hambrienta serpiente,
tan grande como un río,
busca su alimento.Pero no temas por eso.
Canta y vive,
siempre habrán serpientes. -

This tokay #gecko (Gekko gecko) has no movable eyelids. In the absence of blinking, it will have to use its flexible tongue to clean and moisten its eyes, keeping them free of infections.

It's raining in the Amazon forests. Tuíre #Kayapó, a great indigenous leader and chief, has passed away. Her courageous spirit and unwavering dedication to protecting her people and the life of the forest leave a legacy that will inspire generations. As Aiton Krenak said, she was the woman who postponed the end of the world. #RestInPower #TuíreKayapó
