@blogdiva @melanie I don’t think a true working class hero would accept an honour from a hereditary monarchy. John Lennon who wrote the song with that title returned his MBE. Other ‘heroes’ include David Bowie who turned down both a CBE and a Knighthood, his old comrade Brian Eno and the Modfather Paul Weller both turned down CBEs and Trainspotting director Danny Boyle said no to becoming Sir Danny.
