#hARToween Day 23: Trick Or Treat
We are returning to the place of Day 3 here, but this time there's not a child dressed up as a ghost trying to get some candy but... someone else 🤭 Who says that only human children enjoy going trick-or-treating? 😉

#hARToween Day 24: Nightmare
Yikes, I think that was so far the longest work 😅 First thought was a pixelart version of "The Nightmare" by Henry Fuseli, but that didn't work with the aspect ratio. So I decided to try a more modern version. Not happy with the background, feels not detailed enough, but I think I at least managed to rescue it a bit with adding the bookshelf and lamp.
#hARToween Day 26: Horror Movie
I decided to go with one my favourite horror movies here, which I sadly so far never saw in the cinema.
The palette is really working against me in these darker settings, would love to have some darker colors as well 😅
*edit* in a video call at the same time, forgot the alt text 🙈
#hARToween Day 25: Headless
I was SO tempted to just draw a terminal with an SSH shell opened (headless server) but then I figured I'd rather try my hand at an homage to the movie poster of Sleepy Hollow, because that's frankly the actual thing that comes to my mind when I hear the word "headless" in a non-admin context.
Three colors only this time. And I have to say, I surprised myself with that one, I did NOT expect that I'd be happy with this one, but I am very much!
#hARToween Day 8: Stormy Night (backlog)
I decided to go with a thunderstorm at night seen through a window... First time I tried my hand at lightning, actually kinda happy with how that turned out.
No timelapse for these catch-up ones now as that's saving on time while working through the backlog 😅
#hARToween Day 9: Sinister Shadow (backlog)
I thought long and hard about this, but frankly this was the best I could come up with that I felt like I could pull it off 🙈
Once more, no timelapse, trying to get through the backlog here.
Got halfway through Day 10: Devil/Demon but then couldn't make up my mind of what to do with the rest of the scene, so that will have to wait until the morning. But at least 3.5 done in one sitting, nice work on the backlog ^^ Good night!
#hARToween Day 10: Devil/Demon (backlog)
Not happy with the ground, but couldn't figure out how to add details without making it look extremely weird.
Perfection is the enemy of done, so here we go.
#hARToween Day 27: Seance
I think I overdid it yesterday, drawing almost 4 of these, and this is why this one looks quite boring 😅
And I also managed to forget starting the timelapse 🙈
#hARToween Day 28: Cryptid Creature
And of course, I chose Nessie 😊 That was probably the first cryptid creature I ever heard the stories about, so obviously it has a special place in my heart.
#hARToween Day 29: Scary Story
Kinda exhausted from the day and just waiting for dinner to show up, so the original idea of having some kids sit around a fire with one holding a flashlight to their face got reduced to just the flashlight to the face 😅
#hARToween Day 30: Graveyard
Wanted to do this not already completely exhausted from work, so an early post...
I figured, an old graveyard on a hill with a look out to sea would be something nice that's not the usual "spooky graveyard at night, possibly with zombies and vampires" that immediately came to my mind when I first saw the prompt.
#hARToween Day 31: Free Draw!
Today allows me to choose my own prompt, so I went with "Spooky Castle" because that sounded like a fun thing to draw.
And here it is. You may decide yourself on whether there's a vampire living there or a crazy scientist. In any case, I tried my hand at some fog and I think that worked well ^^
I still have to do Day 20 (Dark Garden) and Day 21 (Spooky Swamp) from the backlog, so this is not the last post of these 😉
Happy Halloween! 🎃
#hARToween Day 20: Dark Garden (backlog)
I really wanted to finish the full challenge in October still, so here's the result of my lunch break....
First glueing now done, and yeah, I think I'll go with rounding this one, to help with the spread at the spine. Might also go with backing it into a shoulder to match the casing. Have never done either but that's how you learn I guess.
However, that'll have to wait until tomorrow - I need some hand tools to be able to cut something this thick and those will only arrive tomorrow (I hope!)
Phew, that was a lot of work, and some things didn't work out the way I wanted them, but I guess that's to be expected with the first try on a rounded case book.
Cut the front edge (chisel ftw), rounded it (it felt weird to take a hammer to it, ngl), cut head and tail, then tried my best at backing it into a shoulder (not happy with that result tbh), then added a little book band matching the pink colour found on the official cover, black head bands and started building up the final spine.
My custom hardcover edition of Across a Thousand Dead Worlds #atdw is finished! 🎉
Created the case earlier today, then glued in the textblock. While that was in the press I fetched the vinyl cutter and created a basic cover and spine print, using the same fonts that are also used in the book.
It's not fully square, and trying to back it yesterday also caused some steps in the rounding, but I'm still very happy with the result! 😊
Will probably still add a dust jacket, but for now it's done!
And let's not forget that there are also more partnership models than "man & woman" out there and even if we are looking at that case it's not necessarily the man either who's the biggest nerd...
Can we please stop using the term "Wife Acceptance Factor"/WAF when it comes to technology and/or hobbies? It's sexist AF.
It assumes it's always the wife who's technically less literate, who has (implicitly unfair) ux demands & who's in the way of the husband's fun.
If the problem is something being too nerdy for the other people in your household, maybe use "household acceptance factor"/HAF?
If the problem is a lack of communication about purchases or hobbies - learn to communicate FFS.
First day of my vacation. Of course I didn't sleep in but went #bouldering 😬
Managed to top a route that fits some reason have me a tin of trouble the last time, but also had some issues constantly slipping off holds I didn't have issues with before. I'll just blame my general lack of energy and hope it'll get better now 😅
