@ben I'm halfway through your post and it's already rekindling my desire to build a "federated Patreon." Historically it's been heresy to suggest a Mastodon server monetize in any way but I think there finding a path to sustainability and even members making a living from their "content" would be a powerful force in the world.

@alcinnz @aral My first exposure to this was building a country selector on a donation form for a non-profit. I suggested we just use ISO 3166-1 and was told that it needed to include Tibet. I thought it would be the simplest thing to just use a standard and had my eyes opened.
