It's a really cool project and I love that it gives me the ability to contribute despite my limited artistic ability. I may not be able to make neofenneckko, neocatraxx, or neosnep from scratch but I can kitbash other people's work together and tweak it into something cool.

I'm always nervous about including proper nouns in alt text except when I'm discussing the media they come from. Should I mention both? -

I'm certainly open to suggestions on what might work better. The colorhash algorithm that I've been fiddling with seems to be doing an okay job so far. Or, at least, one of the algorithms in the package does. The rest are not great for this specific task. -

James Endicott (o76923@kitty.social)'s status on Monday, 17-Jun-2024 05:02:56 JST James Endicott That's it. I'm adding an imagehash field to my master emoji file. Same name wouldn't work for consolidating because of how much name variance there is. Trying to match image files exactly isn't going to work either because of compression artifacts. Time to start reading up on how that works.

The eyelashes are the main reason that I didn't just generate these using my locally running copy of the neomoji mixer. I've got to tweak pretty much all of them. If anything, I think they'd just wind up as an extra set of eyes; possibly after we get some kind of categorization scheme set up or we give eyes the ability to have variants. Eyelashes being completely independent of eyes seems like a neomoji maker kind of feature and I know @Erpel@hat-eine.entenbru.st is highly resistant to scope creep in that direction.
That having been said, my motivation for making these is for the greater good of the @neomojimixer@hat-eine.entenbru.st . A few days ago I did a write up on what the most common expressions were among neomoji that I could find. I'm now trying to put together a batch script so that someone can quickly make a default set using the mixer based on my findings there. But I ran into an unexpected obstacle: the mixer lacks some of the parts needed to generate the really popular ones. So, hopefully, when I get further along with neofennecko, I will be able to add a bunch of useful missing parts. -

James Endicott (o76923@kitty.social)'s status on Friday, 14-Jun-2024 21:01:36 JST James Endicott I don't think @sugar@sylveon.social 's Sylveon #neomoji set gets enough love from people who make cursed abominations out of neomoji. So, I took a crack at it, combining bits and pieces to try to recreate some stuff from neocat and neopossum. Here are smol, laugh, googly_woozy, and knife variants of sylveon.

James Endicott (o76923@kitty.social)'s status on Wednesday, 12-Jun-2024 21:19:50 JST James Endicott Across the 55 neomoji animals and their subspecies, the most common expressions are:
The normal face, :neocat:, with 35 of them having a default. Most of the ones that lack one come from the @neomojimixer@hat-eine.entenbru.st where few creations have a neo*_normal_normal_blank_blank_blank made for them.
Second and fourth place are both courtesy of @puniko@mk.absturztau.be . She made cheese_drowsy_blank :neobread_cheese_drowsy_blank: and fcknzs :neopossum_fcknzs: for 30 and 20 of the neomojis respectively.
Rounding out the top 5 are happy :neocat_happy: and sad :neocat_sad: with 22 and 18 then number 6 is Holding a heart, :neocat_heart:, at 17. I guess some people actually use emoji reactions to express emotions. Who knew?
At 16 each are the feelings people have about mornings, :neocat_woozy: and :neocat_mug:, 15 of them have :neocat_owo: to show the result of combining woozy with a mug of coffee.
14 sets let you get mad :neocat_angry:. 13 know you're just mad because you don't have your juice :neocat_sip:.
10-12 have a bunch of different ones including :neocat_pat:, :neocat_blush:, :neocat_blep:, :neocat_aww:, :neocat_3c:, :neocat_think:, :neocat_smug:, :neocat_notice:, :neocat_bottom:, :neocat_boop:, :neocat_scream:, and :neocat_reach:.
Also notable from this range is that it includes the first expression not found in the original neomoji: sleep. @volpeon@is-a.wyvern.rip does include :drgn_sleep: and several variants of sleep like :neocat_up_sleep: and :neocat_flop_sleep: but regular neocats don't just neocat_sleep. -

Someone really ought to come up with a set of recommendations for what batches to make for the launch of a set. Sylveon, neocube, floof, and neobread all launched with less than 30 to get the basic idea out there. Most sets have less than 100 in their core package.
Multi-GB collections are probably not the best approach.
