“Veilid (pronounced Vay-Lid, from “Valid and Veiled Identification”)
“We built Veilid because when the Internet was young and new, we viewed it as an endless and open realm of possibility.
“Instead, the Internet we know now has been heavily commercialized, with users and their data being the most sought-after commodity. The only ways to opt-out of becoming the product for billionaires to exploit are either too technical for the average user, or to simply not go online.
We believe that people should be able to forge relationships, learn, create, and build online – without being monetized.”
I understand somewhere right around 19% - 30% of much of this, but from what I get this project might shake something up. What if “the cloud” what what I thought it was gonna be in 2004, minus all traces of all that etherium dog shit?
@Mondobizarrro There’s also this thing called OP Drops from GearAid that I got but never had the chance to use that some people swear by, though I doubt it would reverse the yellowing, only prevent it (possibly). Tbh clear silicone just does that.
@Mondobizarrro That’ll all fix it temporarily, it’s a maintenance thing. Mine got brittle after being in storage for a few months and shattered. It could have also been just the one I had, but I kind of sort of doubt it.
@Mondobizarrro The best looking one I know of is the Dentec ComfortAir, it has an exhaust port model and one without. Ultimately, anything 3M makes is gonna be high quality, and they have a lot of neat looking ones. I strongly rec the pink p100 filters. I’ve suggested before adding some opaque tights, secured with a sewn in rubberband over top of these to alter their color. Don’t bother trying to paint the elastomer, I’ve tried just about everything and it flakes right off.
The coolest looking military full-face gas masks I know of are the soviet PMK2 or the Polish MP-5, which has standard NATO compatible canister filters, though the viewport will yellow over time. The soviet model has a split viewport, which is a dealbreaker for me. You could retrofit either canisters to use N95 or P100 filters, with some serious doing - epoxy and rubber cement maybe, but you’ll need to know how to test seals really well, and you’d need some sacrificial parts. If you get an military surplus mask, make absolutely sure it’s not a children’s mask, they get you on that.
@Mondobizarrro Holy shit. I must never begin this ride. I really really love that you’re doing it but if I ever went down the path of record collecting myself I’d be just straight lost. It’s gotta stay digital for me. That’s so impressive and scary.
@Mondobizarrro If they were cheap re-pressings I’d say it would be important to look at a lot of reviews, but golly that sure seems like a winner to meeee. What are your other picks?
Just when yr internal monologue’s never ending loop of “I wannadie Iwanna dieIwannadie Iwanna dieI wanna die” seems like it’ll never slow down, you get ur butt pumped full of girl-juice (intramuscular injection via the gluteus of Estradiol Valerate) and suddenly the suffering seems to abate somewhat.
