All previous and following versions and 16 bit were incompatible. There's even been a PHP function that returned different types depending on the platform ...

I mean, the biggest advantage of PHP is that with a common server configuration, people can just upload it, and it works. (At least if the version's compatible...)
No special setups/code to differ between code and other data like with NodeJS, no complicated own servers like Tomcat, Jetty, and the like, no Docker and configuration tools, no cloud.

@Thunfischer@pfalz.social Ich glaube, es gibt kaum ein soziales Netzwerk das weiter von gesellschaftlicher Realität entfernt ist als das Fediverse. Das ist ja gerade der Vorteil.

Hach ja, Nextcloud ist auch so ein Fall wie Skype/Teams. War mal ziemlich gut in dem bisschen was es konnte. Jetzt kann es jeden möglichen Scheiß so halb, aber ursprüngliche Kern-Features wie Dateien per Drag&Drop hochladen funktionieren bestenfalls noch sporadisch, und es ist so übersichtlich wie der brasilianische Regenwald.

Bei uns in Deutschland stellen sich ja die Fragen, ob der Zug/Bus/whatever überhaupt auftaucht und wenn ja, wie viel zu spät, ob man darin noch genug Platz zum Atmen bekommt, und ob man am selben Tag noch einen Anschluss erwischt...
