@coolboymew I’m just annoyed at how little graphics are improving compared to the price of the hardware they expect you to have now. It’s like I’m only paying for better hardware because devs are getting worse at optimizing their games and not because it actually looks better.

@coolboymew I mean in addition to it being a privacy minefield I guess window shopping is way less enjoyable when you have your own budget and already own a ton of tech already. Even as someone who needs a laptop I’m still rocking an almost 10 year old thinkpad which I’ll probably only replace when I physically can’t use it anymore.

I do kinda miss a lot of gimmicky stuff from the past tho like those CD burners that also burned labels. They probably sucked but it would be cool if there was a “game cartridge maker” equivalent in modern day or something.

Pretty much every blocklist is prone to personal bias and a lot of the ones on fedi especially suck. This has been a huge problem on fedi since Mastodon first started gaining popularity. I’d suggest not using them entirely but if you must: at least double check before blindly importing them and taking random stranger’s words as gospel.

@coolboymew I’m a little excited for this I guess. I thought the DOS version was ok and couldn’t really get into the other ones on the Switch. Unless I’m missing something and PM2 was on Switch already or something.

@coolboymew Yeah you’re probably legitimately better off playing Showdown because at least that actually understands how PvP should be handled and is really the only way you can seriously play with a lot of the more complicated mechanics. It’s more insulting because there was the battle frontier and hard mode which was steering the series in the right direction and gave you PvCPU stuff but they both got removed because… I don’t know?

@coolboymew I think SwSh might have been the worst ones but it kinda has an excuse since the team that’s working on them really only had experience with handhelds. It was just kind of insulting because the stated reason they removed most of the pokemon was to improve animations and graphics but it didn’t seem like they did enough to justify it. Personally I feel like they should have just kept the 2D visuals and just worked on making those better.

I think S/V was at least a little better but I couldn’t get through it. It was the only pokemon game I just gave up on but I can’t tell if that was because of its kinda meh open world or because I’m finally burnt out on it after playing for like 20 years.

@coolboymew One really specific annoyance I had for this is that they never actually changed them into the dojo outfits they supposedly put on. I’m not really sure why they even designed gym outfits for them if they spend most of their time in the dojo? Maybe they were scrapped designs that got recycled?

The reason why I’m so weirdly fixated on this is because they kinda did Avery dirty. He’s a pretty twink that just gets shat on because he has no drip.

@coolboymew There was also Cloyster (which is also a really weird pokemon). I guess they kinda did the same thing with Gengar (for non-censorship reasons)? They keep fucking with the Gengar line’s colours and I think the darker sprites were better. Haunter looks like a genuinely scary shadow monster and Gengar looks like it’s about to mug you in a dark alleyway.

@coolboymew I mean, I don’t really like Jynx in general so it would just seem like a weird hill to die on for me but I guess every pokemon is someone’s favorite and there’s probably someone who cares. :akko_shrug:

@coolboymew They really should have picked a darker colour for this, my eyes are burning. I think the Jynx treatment would have been better? It’s one of the few examples were I thought censorship was kinda justified and I actually liked the change. (I haven’t watched Dragonball tho so idk the full context here)
