I think about the revolution in Ayiti as a counter-example of unity being "essential" for a revolution. There were many factions, and at times "disunity" was what saved the revolution such as when the formerly enslaved masses fought against some of the Black generals for siding with Napoleon's plan to bring back the status quo of slavery. The revolution would had probably failed without that "infighting", when the hydra fought the dragon.
@alks I know unity is the common stance with the resistance in Palestine. However, it does seem like issues such as patriarchy or bringing forward a socialist society are sidelined in favor of focusing purely on national liberation.
I think unity always has a price, and it has to be evaluated whether it is worth it or not. I don't blame most Palestinians for thinking its worth it in their context. But I think this consideration has to be context based.
@alks I heard someone talk about how "mulitiplicity" is generally more ideal than "unity". Multiplicity as in a diversity of factions and cadres with different stances, taking on the same enemy like a hydra but without needing to unite in a manner that compromises on other struggles. I think the stop cop city movement is an example of multiplicity in action, and imo I think it has been one of the more effective struggles in the imperialist heartland.
This is about a Black Trans person in Portland, OR:
"Silas is in immediate need of being housed, and this NEEDS to be addressed as community suicide intervention. Suicide is a systemic problem, and being Black, Disabled & Trans, Silas has significant barriers to recieving services. We are begging our community to please step up and help us get our friend safe housing which will be LIFE SAVING."
White workers being the vanguard for shit COVID practices among the working class in this country vindicates J. Sakai's points. Same is true with these unions, originating from the white labor movement and them still largely white-lead, being shit on COVID.
This shit is partly why I don't do labor organizing work anymore, a lot of it is reformism to maintain this racial capitalist world rather than to destroy it.
@cyronimose He wrote a book called Settlers that studies the reactionary tendencies prevalent in the white working class. Its a very marxist analysis, as in the assessments are centered around very specific features that define class (land ownership, access to higher paying jobs, etc).
Its a very solid analysis that I think every one engaged in political struggle in the US should reckon with, to try to fight the tendencies described in the text.
Hella proud Autistic Trans Bitch, they/she pronouns and top-leaning switch (and also sub-leaning). I'm also a white Jew who is against this racial capitalist world and is for Anarchy & Communism. I guess I'm pan.
