@Bam @feditips yeah that sounds like the best way to go about it. I’ll shelve trying to understand it for now and just see how it goes 😅 Ty for all your help

Ric Bixter (ricbixter@mastodonapp.uk)'s status on Sunday, 02-Jul-2023 10:31:01 JST Ric Bixter @Bam @feditips i honestly, my brain is fried with all this. I’m not saying it’s bad, I like a lot of what you’re all describing, it’s just mad that it needs a flowchart to understand the basics of how it works. And there’s also other things called calckey which are a... fediverse? but not… on mastodon. Honestly, it’s literally an entirely new language 😅

Ric Bixter (ricbixter@mastodonapp.uk)'s status on Sunday, 02-Jul-2023 10:10:11 JST Ric Bixter @Bam @feditips ok so why are you on sfba.social? Why did you pick that over the default or literally any other server?

Ric Bixter (ricbixter@mastodonapp.uk)'s status on Sunday, 02-Jul-2023 10:10:10 JST Ric Bixter @Bam @feditips but if everybody sees the same content anyway, why would you need to move to another server that is of your interests? I think that’s the bit I’m not getting. Other than the tech admin/rules side of it, is there any different user experience from one server to another?

Ric Bixter (ricbixter@mastodonapp.uk)'s status on Sunday, 02-Jul-2023 09:55:26 JST Ric Bixter @feditips ok. I think I roughly understand it better. Thank you for all the explanations. It, just on first impressions, seems overly complex for something that doesn’t really seem to make a tangible difference from any one users experience to another.

Ric Bixter (ricbixter@mastodonapp.uk)'s status on Sunday, 02-Jul-2023 09:41:41 JST Ric Bixter @feditips ok I get and like the decentralised stuff. I just can’t get my head around the user experience of it all. So there are different rules etc for different servers but they all talk to each other and you see the same content? How can there be different rules per server but it’s all showing up in the same place? If it all works seemlessly then how do you know what is from your server? Do you go to a specific part of the app to see stuff from your server a bit like a subreddit?

Ric Bixter (ricbixter@mastodonapp.uk)'s status on Sunday, 02-Jul-2023 09:27:59 JST Ric Bixter @feditips I don’t get… it. So, you sign up to a server but all the servers talk to each other so what’s the benefit/difference of picking any one server over another? Like, why is @mastodon.social bad?
