@aral I can only say: Google and RSS, FaceBook Messenger and XMPP. Nufff said. These capitalist companies only use open standards when it means more revenue, not out of conviction. As soon as they notice they don't get enough out of supporting them, they'll drop them again, leaving their users out in the cold. I find this stance by the Mastodon folks terribly naive.
