The department of work and pensions is hiring a deputy director of artificial intelligence delivery, that's irony deid again etc ๐ฉ๐คก https://findajob.dwp.gov.uk/details/16116354
The work isn't producing the output, that's a tiny fraction of it. The work is thinking, taking time to understand the problem you're trying to solve, making sure it's the right one, communicating and collaborating around it within an organisational and economic system, it's.. complex. What we call "knowledge work" is about as far from being on a production line as you can get and yet here we still are dealing with this nonsense.
The question then is why don't we optimise for the conditions in which employees are best able to create value, surely then everyone wins.. Well it turns out holding the balance of power is even more important to yer ruling classes than making money is. They'd rather have a bit less money than share power with you.
Something that really annoys me with text editing apps that give you intrusive suggestions as you type (AI or other) is that a lot of the time the writing is part of my thought process. The goal is more complex than getting the words on the page, it's part of me figuring the thing out and these prompts interfere with that, aggressively so. ๐คฌ
This pattern of toxic CEOs posting from corporate social media accounts, forcing highly visible product changes based on their own personal drama etc is certainly revealing what joke organisations populate the tech industry lol
I'm not sure if this is symptomatic of having had a life threatening disease, but it's my birthday in a few days and am realising I'm very conscious of the age I'm about to be, but not the age I currently am, I haven't taken my current age in somehow.. idk it's like reaching the next one was a goal or something
I'm planning to track some bigger swim goals than normal this year, but since garmin's approach to accessing or customising displays of your own data is dreadful, I decided to just make a spreadsheet and periodically import the data in manually, and you better believe I'm having the time of my life in there ๐คฃ
A reminder that obnoxious, blocking cookie consent banners are not required by law but are there because tech companies had a massive tantrum at being prevented from tracking the bejesus out of you by default.. They don't need to be annoying or intrusive, companies can absolutely choose not to track, to track less, or make the consent experience easier, they choose not to ๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ฉ
