@MikeFromLFE we are programmed and destined to discount things we don’t experience. And we forget in a generation. Sometimes less. Often led by dangerous fools who object to regulations. Regulations are always the result of something nasty to someone. As, I think @rosamundi said the other day “Safety rules are written in blood”.
Science is about problem-solving. And generally your ability to do science is limited by your budget. Here is a remarkably ingenious solution to the problem of how to move a superconducting magnet without having to warm it up, or call a very expensive moving company to do the job for you. Enjoy. #NMR#bacon#speck
here at UCL we have just received a "security alert" from a senior (panicky) manager in our Estates Team about possible "disruption" from #JustStopOil . Maybe I should send him this graph (courtesy of @peter_glen@mas.to). We have to cut our emissions by ½ by 2030 and 80% by 2040… This is not a rehearsal. So maybe it's time we focused our concerns about safety and security somewhere more appropriate? A bunch of pensioners with paintpots and glue aren't a risk to our "business model".
@Gargron@jon Does anyone remember Africa Express here in the UK? They did a whole tour of the country with more bands on board than you can shake a stick at. I saw them off on the platform at Euston. Total joy.
