@dusnm @SpaceAce The fact that "not supporting nazis" is seen as a mere matter of opinion, and that your hypothetical freedom takes precedence is, I think, in itself a fairly significant point of contention between fosstodon and the wider fediverse. You are, in large part, interacting with the people who would be (and have been) first in the crosshairs of nazis. Your freedoms to post are not actually threatened by Tusky banning a single-digit number of nazi instances (though, if they are, whelp, fosstodon has bigger issues). Whereas, a lot of folk here are materially threatened when others stand by as nazis gain support.

There is simply no respectful way to advocate anything that further supports nazis, however passively. The fact that the post was coached in politeness does not make it respectful.

You chase the ideal of freedom more than you chase what that freedom is actually freeing us from.

That this is only one issue with fosstodon currently, among evidently a storied history of issues, is probably why you are seeing defederations.

I am very sorry that banning nazis goes against the spirit of your software movement. Maybe find a better software movement.

Also, building robust safeguards against bad actors using their software is, uh, *checks notes*, exactly what Tusky did.
