Off to see a pre-screening of Darlinghurst Eats Its Young - a film based on a suitcase found full of photos from the early 1980s in our inner city. I'm going to see myself and a lot of dead people including old band members in houses I'll recognise. It'll be a bit spooky. Hopefully not too sad. People make fun of Mastodon for being full of Linux Retro Cat People, but the smug American politics on Bluesky is making me want to stab forks in my eyeballs.

@SDF The blurb says it should work but I am not seeing the icon that is supposed to be now on the Threads interface. Probably Error 1 ‘Australia is not worth the trouble’.

@BeAware @SDF It is very active. I should be clear that I’m just one user with quite specific interests that aren’t being met and so offering to be made a Guinea pig to see if federation is a good or bad idea.

@SDF @BeAware when I come here I go to the big federated feed and roll through everything for at least a few minutes looking for some souls I might have missed that look worth following.

You already know that 15m accounts doesn’t mean 15m active voices. The number of active accounts sometimes grows but it shrinks as well. It seems down at the moment but I have no stats.

@SDF I’ve been geoblocked from trying this so far no direct experience. But Threads has reciprocal problems to mastodon. Too many voices all yelling into the void. Deaf to conversation.

Here it’s too few voices to build any larger conversation. You can work hard on some fun and it goes out to the desert and dies. Symptoms include seeing 11 posts in a row from one user today!

I’m not exactly sure what would happen. But if the bridge was optional I would turn it on to find out. #fediverse

Another day another big YouTube take down.

Every few weeks I go onto YouTube, find videos where people have 'helped me' upload my music and enter a copyright claim. Invariably there's pissing and moaning about 'share economy' and being a 'fan', which I've learned to ignore.

Before I averaged about 2000 views per clip. I now have up to 100K views on some clips. You see how 'helpful' it's been.

Update - the emails are starting to arrive. "I was given 7 days to remove my video but didn't get around to it please remove the copyright strike I am a big fan and only wanted to help you"
