    @esther

    FWIW, a bunch of British TERFs joined Bluesky a week or two ago and tried to tone police their way into acceptance.

    They were immediately and relentlessly dragged by nearly every single user on Bluesky before being bodily ejected straight into the sun.

    Tolerating bullshit-spewing bigots and sheltering them through pedantic calls for civility is a choice.

    It's telling that the GOP is rejecting Mark Robinson because he was attracted to transgender people, and not for hating them.

    There's a lot of disqualifying stuff going on here, but frankly little of it is brand new. A lot of it is just further details on views he has publicly and proudly admitted. Mark Robinson's rampant anti-semitism, transphobia, holocaust denial, and wide ranging bigotry were all well known for months or even years. Any and all of it should have been disqualifying long before today. I just think it's weird where the GOP chooses their red lines, where this kind of stuff is disqualifying in their eyes, and where this kind of stuff is OK or even desirable.

    I'm trimming back some of the time I spend on social media because it has been limiting some of my progress on personal goals. But I also fight a lot of FOMO, and this place has a been a genuinely useful place to stay informed of some topics like cyber threat intel and infosec news. I'm curious what strategies people have found useful for limiting their social media time on Mastodon while staying up to date on key topics. I'm leaning towards a combination of one or more lists of key accounts as well as the "explore" tab of popular/trending posts. Suggestions?

    @mekkaokereke modern BLM-era civil rights protests have also been less destructive and less violent than the civil rights protests of the 1960s.

    @patrickcmiller "caused" should probably be "contributed to." Also, for a study that claims to be about "human factors", there's a remarkable lack of introspection about the actual underlying human factors beyond "blame the human operator." No serious industry portraying itself as safety/security-focused would ever accept a double-digit percentage of human error resulting in significant negative consequences without a deeper examination and direct addressing of the underlying causes. We collectively need to stop blaming our users.

    @marcelias that assumes a fair application of the law. The other possibility is that we are in an age of legal Clavinball, where bigots have an absolute right to discriminate against others, but we lack the right to discriminate against bigots.

    @timnitGebru didn't we go through this before with SCIgen? Did they not realize that SCIgen was supposed to be a joke, not an instruction manual?
