Police rounded up and murdered trans women, destroying records of their existence.

Once the public accepted their persecution, the Nazis expanded their reach—moving on to Jewish people, disabled people, and other marginalized groups.

The same thing happened under McCarthyism in the 1950s. Before Joseph McCarthy launched his full-scale attack on suspected communists, the U.S. government targeted LGBTQ+ people in what became known as the Lavender Scare. Trans and queer workers were purged from federal jobs, framed as mentally unstable threats to national security.

When the Nazis rose to power, their first victims weren’t Jewish people. They started with trans people, gay men, and sex workers. One of their first major acts was burning down Magnus Hirschfeld’s Institute for Sexual Science, destroying the world’s earliest research on gender identity.

Trans people were arrested and sent to concentration camps before most of the world even realized what was happening.

In some states, simply dressing in a way that contradicts your sex assigned at birth is now criminalized. They are testing forced detransition laws, and in several states, politicians are openly discussing institutionalizing trans people under "mental health" laws.

The next step is mass arrests. It is already happening in pieces—people are being charged with “fraud” for using their correct gender markers.

They framed gender-affirming care as “child abuse,” weaponizing parental fear. They manufactured moral panics about trans athletes to justify excluding trans people from public life. Once these arguments gained traction, they expanded their reach.

Now, trans adults are being banned from healthcare. Gender markers on IDs and passports are being revoked, making it impossible for trans people to legally exist. Bathroom bans have turned into public space bans.

Under the United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, genocide is defined as acts committed with the intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial, or religious group.

Transgender people are both a national group within the U.S. and an international group with a shared identity and experience across borders.

If people do not resist now, the U.S. will reach the next stage of fascism. If people do not fight back, the same system that has targeted trans people will turn against anyone who does not fit the Christian nationalist vision of society.

There is no middle ground. There is no compromise with a movement that wants to erase people from existence.

Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group: Laws penalizing parents for supporting their trans children effectively separate them from their families and communities.

The intent to destroy trans people as a group is evident in the coordinated efforts to pass hundreds of anti-trans laws, the framing of trans people as a "threat" to society, and the rhetoric of far-right politicians and activists openly calling for their elimination.

Disrupt the enablers. Corporations, donors, and media networks backing anti-trans laws must face economic and social destruction.
