I have never been comfortable with labels in the same way that I resist being stuffed into neat little boxes. The labels aren't the whole story, and I struggle with feeling included in the wider labelled group, but they do tell an important part of the story.

The Q in LGBTQ is mostly assumed to mean "queer" these days but growing up I more often heard it as "questioning." Here's to those questioning—you don't have to fit neatly into boxes. Coming out isn't a one off or a one-size-fits-all.

Someone on bluesky was talking about the momentary joy of landing in a place with a lot of like-minded, fellow marginalized people and the disappointment that follows from the lack of leadership to keep those people safe.

This is how I felt about Mastodon and Eugen's insistence on ignoring feedback. But I'm hopeful there will be more opportunities to build something better.

I'm guilty of running up on the post limit myself but I find myself missing a shorter post size. The cognitive overhead of scrolling through my feed is way higher than I feel like it used to be

Reading through https://justingarrison.com/blog/2023-04-24-mastodon-is-doomed/ and I agree with nearly everything written here, I just draw different conclusions.

Operating internet services is _extremely_ expensive. Costs have been swept under the rug due to the success of advertising as a funding model. It's bizarre to me how we talk about cost of primarily community developed services when we don't talk like this at all about VC-funded software or services.

Reposting because this is much more unusual than I had expected. Source code has not been released, but the compiled binaries are being released under an Apache 2 license. Can anyone think of a precedent here? Nonetheless, this is certainly a step in the right direction.
