The henhouse is all spiffed up. The hens were hiding in the shade. We now know their names are Willow, Sequoia and Cypress. They have lovely hanging plant baskets to beautify their home. I wonder if they are laying?

1. The chicken coop we admired a couple of months ago has had some home improvements. The spacious rectangular coop is built of wood, with a nice chicken wire cage, and a wooden henhouse with a nice ladder. There are a few chicken necessities in the coop. And now it has two lovely decorative plant baskets, with an array of colorful leafy and viney plants. There are three ceramic plaques on the exterior wall, with a chicken image and the names of the hens: Willow, Sequoia and Cypress! The support beam of the coop also has a plaque showing several hens and roosters. The hens themselves are resting in the dark shade.

1. A northwest contemporary split level house is being repainted in bright turquoise with white trim. You can see a section under a window in the older gray color. The house has a large deck with white railing over the garage. There is a person is a yellow shirt and gray shorts on a stepladder with their back to us busily painting the garage door white. The main level of the house facing the steeply sloping street is landscaped with various shrubs, and you can see a couple of painter's ladders positioned for additional work. The sky above is a bright blue.

1. The end of summer, artsy rendering of a photo of tall dry grasses in various shades of gold ranging from red to pale gold. The grasses are caught in a ray of sunlight, seed heads bright against a darker background of evergreen trees. A few overhanging oval leaves of a madrone tree are also caught in the ray, glowing with a green light. There are a few dry, red-brown leaves caught in the grass stems. The artistic effect is impressionist, making the grass seed heads look a bit like sparks on stems, and the background misty and mysterious.

1. A closeup of a sunflower bud close to opening: you can see the tube flowers all closed and laying down, looking like golden green hair combed to a point in the middle. 1. Crocosmia buds are growing amid their bright green strappy sword-shapped leaves. The buds are on long racemes growing alternately on snaky stems. The long buds are placed alternately along the racemes, each one looking like an exotic shiny bead, with red to fuschia sepals, and a tubular corolla starting out yellow and shading to bright red. The overall effect is a bit like a flashy neck choker.

The compound leaves above it are a little dry and yellowish, with small thorns on the stems. The background is green, leafy and blurry. These berries have wickedly thorny canes which are easily identified due to their oddly blue waxy color.

1. A fairly new purple wooden box frame (3 by 4 feet, maybe?) is set on wooden posts amid shrubs next to the sidewalk. A grid of screws inside the box are intended to hang trinkets or keychains. There are a few decorative keychains hanging from screws, a lanyard and a bracelet. A yellow sun painted on the back with black lettering indicates this is the "Ravenna Keychain Library." A small white board on the bottom right reads: "*Take a keychain* ~Leave a trinket~" In the left upper corner an explanatory note says: "Thank you all for supporting our little pocket of sidewalk joy! • Please take a keychain, leave a keychain, or take keychaind as much as you'd like If you have spare trinkets, you can leave them on the shelf and we will tum them into keychains. •We add new keychains every two weeks usually on Mondays or whenever we are feeling silly. The metal bits are new, but everything else comes from donors, thrift stores, etc. Reducing & reusing? Thank you again for being excellent neighbors. The stewards of the keychain library."

1. A purple smoke tree and a gold and green ninebark bush provide some pleasing summery color contrasts. Some of the oval smoke tree leaves have sunlight striking them, creating an orange glow. You can see the lobed and serrated ninebark leaves unfurl in shades of golden orange, move to yellow ,and get greener as they age.

2. A purple smoke tree is fronted by vivid magenta geranium flowers rising above their palmate serrated fuzzy green leaves. The smoke tree has a panicle of orange and yellow flowers, so small they give a hazy smoky effect when you approach the tree.
