@pfefferle Only when I post new things, but for each new post there are two CPU peaks associated with CPU faults. One when it is first published, then a larger one later when I (or someone else with a moderate following) boosts it directly on Mastodon.

Happy for pings to take their time. Thanks for looking into it, I’m also working through the suggestions as far as I’m able.

@pfefferle Exactly. Maybe there are there some Litespeed settings I could tweak?

Thanks for your interest and help.

I thinking of uninstalling the excellent #Wordpress #ActivityPub Plugin and defederating my sites from the #Fediverse. For technical reasons only. CPU goes through the roof when new posts are boosted for the first time, causing 508 errors.

Does anyone else suffer from this problem and have any suggestions to lighten the load?

Maybe I’m overreacting and should just live with the minute or two of daily downtime?

    I have Litespeed cache installed.

@pfefferle No, because the first step apparently hasn't worked, so I didn't move onto the next step. More likely, I'm misunderstanding the instructions. Are you saying the Template Parts option in the admin under Appearance will only appear if I create a parts folder (with e.g. FTP), and put the specified html file in it (with e.g. FTP)?

@pfefferle So, I created the parts folder containing the html file as suggested. There's still no Templates Parts menu option immediately under Appearance, but if I go to Patterns, there are now options 'All Template Parts' and 'General'. This matches the screenshot in the instructions, but differs to the text in your instructions. Instruction say Appearance > Editor > Template Parts; but (for me at least) it is Appearance > Patterns).

@pfefferle I also added the php snippet to the post template as per the final step. But no block appears on the front end. I put a little test <p>position for fediverse block</p> alongside the php snippet and that appears on the front end, so the location is correct.

So, no idea what I'm doing wrong, I've double checked every step. The site I'm trying to set it up on is https://monstertoyblog.com

@pfefferle A question about the trouble shooting note in the instructions: "Make sure you've created and saved the template part in the Site Editor". Is the "Site Editor" this interface shown in the screenshot below (I get there via Appearance >Patterns)? I think it is, because part of the url says site-editor.php, but that's not obvious at all. And if it is the Site Editor, that's the saved template part above post_footer, right? Looks setup correctly?

@pfefferle I seem to have stumbled at the first hurdle.

"After adding this code, you'll see a Template Parts option in your WordPress admin under Appearance."

But I don't. I added the new function to a couple of blogs with no apparent change to the Appearance menu. There is a Patterns option but that was already there. Is that the same thing as Template Parts?

@pfefferle Could you recommend a trick to auto insert the Reactions Block under all posts on a classic theme? For example, I could add it using an 'ad inserter' if there was a shortcode. Could I do something similar with a copy-pasted snippet of full code? Thanks!

@pfefferle @dinotoyblog Aha, I recently turned on some anti-bot settings in Cloudflare because I've been having content scraped and stolen. See image. That's probably it?

But curiously, the most recent DinoToyBlog post (an hour ago) *did* federate to Mastodon, including an image (https://sauropods.win/@dinotoyblog@dinotoyblog.com/114013219987885906), despite the Cloudflare settings still being active.

Thanks for the reply and assistance! 🙏

@pfefferle @dinotoyblog I also have Cloudflare's Hotlink Protection enabled, but I've had that on for years without any apparent problem (on Mastodon anyway).

    @pfefferle @dinotoyblog

    Update:

That one post that wasn't federating on Mastodon appeared when I turned off bot security, so good call!

I turned off Cloudflare's Hotlink Protection and the federated images appeared on Pixelfed, but only up to 52 weeks ago (a year exactly). More recent posts do not appear, why would that be?

Unless there's a workaround, I guess this all means I need to decide what's more important to me, security or smooth federation.

@pfefferle Even with all those Cloudflare settings turned off, new posts are not federating to Pixelfed, while they are federating to Mastodon. Any idea what could be the difference?

@skinnylatte Of the nine teeth, one belongs to Zarafasaura, not a dinosaur, three to Mosasaurus, also not a dinosaur, and five to Dyrosaurus, also also not a dinosaur. So, no dinosaurs in their article about dinosaurs. The body of the article describe the teeth as marine reptiles so they know better, but clicks trump facts I guess... #BBC #dinosaurs

For some reason this @dinotoyblog post doesn't seem to be federating (any idea why not @pfefferle?) so I'm sharing it manually: https://dinotoyblog.com/hallucigenia-plush-by-zhongxin-made/

Plush Hallucigenia, with many arms for many cuddles! The long 'neck', if you can call it a neck, and small head, is reminiscent of a sauropod dinosaur.

We'll review the Plushtodon Mastodon mascot one of these days... it technically counts as a prehistoric animal toy!
