Today's historic photo of the day: 39 years ago today, 48140 has attached to the front of 4827 and its recently arrived Cooma Mail, shunted into platform 2 and attached additional carriages for the remainder of the journey to Sydney at Goulburn, NSW, December 14 1985.
As well as mail, Mail trains carried passengers with a choice of economy and first class seats or sleeping berths. Traditionally they ran overnight between Sydney and regional destinations across NSW.

The beauty of Sydney Metro has in no small part been due to freedom from intrusive advertising.
But that's all coming to an end starting today.
This gushing promotion is chunderous. And calling them "customer screens" just rubs salt into the wounds.
