If you have ever had your healthcare taken away-- or if, like me, you never have, but you've witnessed the unnecessary terror and suffering and death that result-- you applaud anyone who is standing up for *human life* against a murderous dictator.

Suppose a fascist dictatorship took over another country, and a representative disrupted lies that would kill people. Would you clutch your pearls? No, because you would recognize it was warranted.

So why respond differently in the US?

Anybody pearl clutching at this stage is uninformed or unwilling to admit:

-that we have lost our democracy already
-that the 2026 elections at this rate either won't happen, or will be shams
-that our own healthcare is threatened regardless of privilege
-that this is going to take stepping out of line
-that POC and LGBT people have been experiencing threats to life their entire lives and are better at this, and
-that the rest of us had better immediately follow their lead.

Who misses the 2000s?? Cis het elder millennial here, the 2000s SUCKED. The fashion sucked, the politics sucked, the music mostly sucked, a dating pool of guys who later became LITERAL NAZIS sucked indescribably.

I have never been nostalgic for that era once, not for five minutes. There are no rose colored glasses with any prescription strong enough to make me miss it.

Judging by the evidence from town halls, polling, Sarah Longwell's focus groups, and death threats to Musk, the scales are starting to fall from people's eyes. I'm done laughing at leopards eating faces. Yes, it's been an excruciating time and we all needed some schadenfreude briefly, but those of us who are able to talk to MAGAs need to seize the moment. "Those guys are rich crooks who literally don't care if we all die" is a pretty powerful message to rally around.

I'll never forget watching a video where a group of Kentucky coal miners with black lung took a bus to DC to appeal to Mitch McConnell for help getting the medical care they needed. He ran into an elevator and let the door close on them.

I remember thinking, "Man, the irony is those guys probably hate Bernie, and Bernie is the guy in the Senate who probably cares the most about them. And literally anyone cares more than Mitch."

IDK, man, I think there are a bunch of people who *thought* they'd be handlers, but Musk and Trump are too unhinged/stupid/high/demented to be handled. No way did the billionaires want these tariffs blowing up the economy. No way did they want the recession that's now inevitable.
