My EP “Passage of Remnants” is now up on Apple Music, Spotify, and other streaming services. It’s a great if short soundtrack to your dreary winter afternoons.

I’m thrilled to announce that I’m releasing my first EP “Passage of Remnants” on Friday: https://matthewlyon.bandcamp.com/album/passage-of-remnants
It’s up for pre-order, Friday is Bandcamp Friday, and I’m donating *and matching* all proceeds for sales that day to a local houseless outreach organization as they go into what’s shaping up to be a harsh winter.
I know I’ve been a bit quiet here lately, but I’m going to release an album, and have been busy
I’ve made my single free, all proceeds are donated to a local houseless outreach organization, and today that includes the share that typically goes to bandcamp: https://matthewlyon.bandcamp.com/album/when-both-became-neither-single
@postpunkjustin funnily enough I have so much nostalgia for Metroid and Super Metroid, the Prime series ruined all that so much that I haven’t played any of the newer ones
three of the inputs on my USB audio interface are glitching; looks like it’s time to start thinking about replacing it. Anyone have recommendations?
The more I get into DIY and learn about device programming, the more I’m tempted to try building my own
Afternoon listening, simple patch in AUM on my iPad, Ruismaker Noir, Fugue Machine, the Marbles port, and Enso all running in a polyrhythm fashion
A thing I spend a lot of time thinking about for my day job is imparting knowledge in a situationally-appropriate manner
Naturally this has carried over into working with synths and so I’ve made myself some cheat sheets for things with a lot of complexity where I know the basics but often need easy references.
I finally printed some of these and put them in a binder, and already I’m dipping into modes of Marbles, Tides, and Plaits I hadn’t thought to touch yet.
converting one of my sketchnotes into a more legible reference, will be up on my website soonish
the printout has been handy as a reference for practicing
(I should note this applies to any fourths-based grid, not just the Linnstrument, but the Linnstrument is the only note grid I know that uses fourths by default)
I setup the 7y/o with AUM and some plugins on their iPad this morning, including AudioDamage’s Enso looper, and showed them a bit about how to use it
they started with some weird juxtapositions — fart noises and piano noodlings — and have then reinvented on principle the Twin Peaks reverse speech dubbing technique
in order to tell me “poop comes from a butthole”
regardless, this is the best possible proud dad feeling on father’s day
My old KRK audio monitors didn’t survive my move 4 years ago, and for various reasons I never replaced them; I’ve been composing and mixing on headphones for a while now; it’s uncomfortable and has yielded skewed results.
A month ago I finally splurged on a pair of Dynaudio LYD-7s, and OMG it’s amazing
But the real kicker is that I’ve been listening to music on my sonos all this time, and now I’m back to iTunes into the monitors, and it’s amazing how much better this is all around
Finally got my new computer setup for music-making; only installed about half my plugins, from 12 manufacturers
no gods, no masters, no copy protection, no ilok
I have a track on this excellent compilation out today: https://tripfm.bandcamp.com/album/music-for-magnolia-trees
(it’s also on streaming services if those are your thing)
Rings acting as a carrier
to Warps’ vocoder
with (new!) DrumKastle as the modulator
into Mimeophon for echoes
Morning listening
evolution of the previous patch. I think I finally got the hang of Bloom; it’s not the generative sequencer I would have built, but I can appreciate it for what it is. Bloom is driving Surface, and providing clock to Marbles; Surface is going to Draume, Nautilus -> Wingie 2, Dradd, Aurora, and Starlab
I like this enough I’m trying to figure out how to do a recording of just a sequence or two with Bloom
I’m a composer in love with synthesizers & lyrical melody, an artist fascinated by the interplay of pattern & decay. I work in technology as well, see my altI live on the southern coast of the Salish Sea, parent in a nuerospicy household, and otherwise deal w/ #CPTSD #ADHD +comorbidities & autoimmune skin conditionsFirst full-length album “Lies in Reach” out now on Triplicate Records: https://matthewlyon.bandcamp.com/album/lies-in-reach
