ELI5: what about this album is making everyone realize Taylor Swifts music is just recycled pop garbage when it’s been that for almost the whole time?

I’m not sure who needs to hear this but “Sidekiq jobs” is not a design pattern, application architecture or system design and if that confuses you, that’s a problem.

      Jevons paradox
In economics, the Jevons paradox (; sometimes Jevons effect) occurs when technological progress increases the efficiency with which a resource is used (reducing the amount necessary for any one use), but the falling cost of use induces increases in demand enough that resource use is increased, rather than reduced. Governments, both historical and modern, typically expect that energy efficiency gains will lower energy consumption, rather than expecting the Jevons paradox. In 1865, the English economist William Stanley Jevons observed that technological improvements that increased the efficiency of coal use led to the increased consumption of coal in a wide range of industries. He argued that, contrary to common intuition, technological progress could not be relied upon to reduce fuel consumption. The issue has been re-examined by modern economists studying consumption rebound effects from improved energy efficiency. In addition to reducing the amount needed for a given use, improved efficiency also lowers the relative cost of using a resource, which increases the quantity demanded. This may counteract (to some...

I don’t really feel like I’ve seen this pointed out anywhere, but when the US government spends trillions of dollars a year, these guys do realize that the vast majority of that is going into people’s pockets and businesses pockets, right?

When is the last time a new law was passed? I know of a bunch of protections that have been rolled back, but what was the last law that actually affected anyone?

These people live in an alternate universe. It’s so weird.

It’s insane to me how much mileage a poll with 1200 participants will get in the media. I wouldn’t trust an a/b test with 12,000 responses. You’re telling me your 10% +/- polling number is accurate with 1200 randos that answered your phone call? GTFO of here.

I read an article about how PMs could use Perplexity.ai to be better PMs, and after reading 21 different examples, I have one question: Are PMs stupid? And is like 3 paragraphs of barely any information really going to fix that?

Pretty interesting that the reaction to every Oculus headset ever is *crickets*.

And the reaction to the AVP seems to be something I can only categorize as blind rage.
This week, I've seen smart people declare:
    1. It's a total failure.
    2. It's not revolutionary, it's simply an iPad strapped to your face.
    3. It's a solution looking for a problem and there's small odds they'll ever find one.

People have BIG feelings for something that has existed for a month.
