about 20 years ago now, i used to spend a lot of time talking with someone online. i've exhausted all possible OSINT skills i have trying to find them online anywhere given the time and dropping off the face of the earth.

i figure if she's going to be anywhere online now, it'd be on here.

we used to talk all the time on AIM and her username was FrozenRanma, or FrostMagician at times. we played GunBound and there was an arcade...

granted i haven't been posting anywhere near as frequently or anything nearly as interesting as i did previously, but i do feel like engagement on wandering.shop has had a SHARP drop off this year. i need to go see what censorship/banning they're doing of other instances. might just be time to go back to my own single-user instance and do the bluesky thing. i just cannot with twitter. it's still all rage bait, misogyny, violence, and rancid politics. a real echochamber for killing mental health.

the thing is... like... aside from obvious abuse potential and endangering people who are already in scary situations... who actually needs a feature like recall?

there's never been a single time in all of my years using a computer that i would've needed a feature like that. that's what my own memory is for, that's what notes are for, bookmarks, password managers, etc.

there's no justifiable reason other than trying to sell AI to reclaim investment and also to spy on users more.

just know that constantly chugging the fire hose of world news and affairs and social media will catch up with you one day, whether that day is soon or later. and then you'll be so sick and have so little energy that you won't be able to fight the fights you want and need to do.

there was a post i boosted recently talking about that. it's well and truly a form of torture -- don't do it to yourself.
