My wife is my intrepid on-the-scene correspondent at today's #mayday2025 demonstration at Foley Square. She has sent this video of the Resistance Revival Chorus chanting. The People Will Rise! #ThePeopleWillRise
May Day: protesters rally across US over workers’ and immigrants’ rights
Tens of thousands expected at protests taking place in nearly 1,000 cities against Trump and his administration
"As Trump surpassed 100 days in office, a period filled with slashing and burning of the federal government and democratic norms, a resistance has taken shape... People have started to organize in larger numbers to pressure Democrats to stand up more strongly to Trump."
"What’s particularly notable is that the AI’s response is actually more coherent than Trump’s — it maintains a more consistent narrative structure while hitting the same rhetorical points. This suggests that Trump’s responses are even less constrained by reality than a typical LLM’s output."
@cwebber I believe that we now live in a world where "speaking up" is so cheap and so easy that "speaking up" - a symbolic act - no longer poses the threat it once did. As long as we don't have the will or the concentration or the coherence to organize, to coordinate persistent actions in a way that will significantly disrupt the way the world works, the powers that be are happy to have us "speak up" #SeizeTheMeansOfCommunity
@inthehands@SETSystems ...to which I would add: Autodidacticism is a very valuable skill to possess and to pursue. I've done so my entire life...and the internet makes it vastly easier. But it isn't the same thing as education, which has a social aspect that, by and large, the internet does not provide.
@freakazoid Well, unless I missed the movie where the Rebellion dissolves the Empire and runs the galaxy on non-hirrarchical principles, maybe you should throw in a side discussion of efficacy...
@freakazoid Well, I'm going to say: ethics may oblige you to resist/oppose, the magnitude of the wrong may justify certain levels of resistance/opposition, but pragmatic considerations (including likely efficaciousness) should enter into the decision whether resistance should take the form of violence.
