I'm already seeing EEE (Embrace, Extend, Extinguish) user experiences from Threads/Bluesky on Mastodon. People are responding to content from there, linking to content there, but if you aren't on the other platform you don't see the content, the links don't work, you can't see what they're replying to, etc.

By embracing connectivity to these platforms, the Fediverse is choosing to be a second class citizen on corporate platforms.

Some Americans are coming to the same realization some Germans did… that 1/3 of us would kill 1/3 of us while the other 1/3 watches.

When biking infrastructure is only seen as "recreational", it leads to design choices that make it unreliable for practical transportation use.

My fascination with the period has to do with how absurdly limited the worldview was, how progress wasn't viewed as inevitable, and yet how society evolved despite that.

Do the "parent groups" know that a parent can just tell their kid, "no, you can't check that book out?" Parents have agency and should be... parenting their children. I tell my kid no all of the time. Are these parents really that incompetent? Do we need to send CPS? The incapability of parents to say 'no' is a greater crisis, in my opinion, than some fringe possibility of accessing unapproved content.

A family member is planning an "adult only" wedding. I know this is the current trendy thing and I understand the desire to not have screaming babies in your ceremony. But I can't stomach the idea of telling my kid that he's unwelcome and leave him behind while we jet across the country, and that a family member doesn't want him there. He's a polite elementary aged kid, very mature, and very self aware. So we probably won't attend. Is that petty?
