Episode of on-being is amazing “Wow, there’s so much going on that’s both clinical & functional in these objects but there’s also something expressive that’s happening, that they’re trying to broadcast something about the person who’s wearing them.” … “ I think the mythology of life unfettered & only driven by choosing & optimizing(Eugenics inspired). And again, that’s the kind of AI thing, that choosing, optimizing, selecting for patterns, clearing the path. For what?”- https://onbeing.org/programs/sara-hendren-our-bodies-aliveness-and-the-built-world/
Case in Point - I “melted” UI developers minds who insist on TypeScript for coded static type checking by extending/mutating said types in running JavaScript browser code to demonstrate prototype-based inheritance.
Unspoken assumptions should really be replaced with stated presumptions with %age of occurrence in a specific context and time range. Useful friction, overcome by required potential energy.
No trade-offs usually means no ethics which usually shows up as all power concentrated at the top of a hierarchical structure with coercive, corrosive, dictatorial and authoritarian behavior.
But corporations (collections of individual humans) somehow don’t need or reward cohesion function or effort for alignment to achieve stated goals. Analogy: play soccer with team of 11 goal keepers.
“Been all across the board with different types of design, so limiting to UI, UX, icon, visual, web, etc. is absurd... as is listing them all out.” - it’s not about listing but having ontology/classification system defined, shared & understood.(DSU)
Biology has organism, species & genus structure. Chemistry has the periodic table of elements. Physics & maths have theories, equations and proofs.
What would ontology for Designer practices and patterns look like - DSU?
@PavelASamsonov NPS passed the “Goodhart’s law” threshold when it was massively adopted as a ~metric~, er incentive. —— Goodhart's Law states that “when a measure becomes a target, it ceases to be a good measure.” In other words, when we use a measure to reward performance, we provide an incentive to manipulate the measure in order to receive the reward.
The response to this question and appeal to find “community of interest & practice” has been incredible, generous, helpful and supportive. I’ll curate suggested list and hashtags to share later. Right now, gotta go do some work.
@IPEdmonton I was being specific. I’m looking for people interested in: - people-centered design - User eXPerience (UX) design or - Human Computer Interaction (HCI) design.
Usually these experiences are designed for software tools but can also be print, multimedia, gaming, etc.
This is sad and enraging. Recorded seminars are deleted because storage is “not” expensive but curation and librarians who manage knowledgable data are. We are literally, digitally burning knowledge.
Imagine if the non-digital old skool classic paper had this kind of built in obsolescence? Homer’s Iliad, William Shakespeare plays, Jane Austin ‘s pride and prejudice, the Quran, the Rigveda Samhita - never heard of these books?
Head twist: How do #ActivityPub server implementations like Mastodon not understand that account transfer means the whole digital content related to an account, not just selected pieces.
Analogy: This is operating like old school bank accounts where followers are direct debits and who you follow are standing orders. Your content (transactions) don’t move to your new bank but you have statements (export of data).
It’s digital and data plus 2023. We can do so much better. Wander pondering.
