Hot take: You shouldn't be allowed to #trademark individual dictionary words. Period. Yes that includes single-word brand names like Mastodon, Tweet, Twitch, Discord, Apple, Tesla, Shell, etc.

The notion that you can own a word, one of the most basic elements of language, especially a word that's been in use for anywhere from hundreds to thousands of years BEFORE you or your business even existed, is one of the many ridiculous constructs that #capitalism made up and makes us think is normal.

Website: In case we get hacked!

Me: I don't really care, no one even knows about this account and it doesn't have my personal information.

Website: You misunderstand, it's so that in case we get hacked, we HAVE your information to leak to the hackers. They worked hard and deserve it! Also we sell your account to ad companies but they're not interested unless they can tie it to a real person.

@thomasfuchs @janellecshane Seriously tho how is this even news? IBM had their Watson robot play Jeopardy over a decade ago. WolframAlpha can also solve tons of high school and college tests as long as they're not too cryptically worded. Of fucking course computers are good at doing knowledge and logic based questions! They're *really* overselling chatGPT here by claiming this is some new innovation.
