Just as much a power play as expecting free tech support from family for your corporate OS.

The Linux user only has as much power to apply pressure for the switch as they are given through requests for free tech support.

@alcinnz I encountered a website implementing it's own loading animation yesterday, replacing the browsers own with no improvement in functionality. This was a pretty traditional webpage, not an app.

Why?

@alcinnz Web app level of up to date is really only something that appeals to companies wanting to not support old software.

Which I fully understand. But that isn't usually in the end users best interests.

I do like keeping software up to date, but the NixOS model of 'everything gets updated, or nothing does' is pretty appealing. It should reduce the instances of an update breaking the interactions between applications.

Top and bottom are very confusing terms some times.

I would call this a "down firing" LED, but with the non emiting side labelled "bottom" which way up would you expect the parts to be in a reel?

@alcinnz Windows forces users to use the commandline.

It isn't that hard to get it to give an error message akin to: "Unknown thing went wrong, please run <commandline tool> for any useful information"

My OS knowledge is limited, but I'd presume "commandline under the hood" is ubiquitous. Any OS that didn't include one would have devs adding one to feel at home.

Eternal email challenge: Spell the recipient's name correctly. When their name is clearly the bit in their email address before the '.'.

@alcinnz calling Verilog or VHDL programming probably feels okay to many gatekeepers, but is a useless grouping of skills that are wildly different.

Similar to 'engineer', 'programing' means so many different things that as unqualified term it means so little.

While I prefer narrow definitions of terms, the gate keeping due to giving different terms different importance is fucking horrid.
