I don't doubt that #OpenBSD's performance will be worse than #FreeBSD's. However, you may gain additional insight by seeing how FreeBSD/httpd[1] and FreeBSD/relayd[2] perform...
https://youtu.be/wkMfXJpAGqM?t=11854 At OpenFest 2024, I presented a significant improvement to the FreeBSD development process as a result of my recent work. OpenFest plays an important role in supporting open-source software and the free sharing of knowledge. @openfest#OpenFest#OpenFest2024#FreeBSD
So far I have not been able to start #RiverWM correctly as it somehow doesn't use my config which is in the correct location and has the correct permissions. But I have got #SwayWM working for now and #QuteBrowser running which is progress. I have also changed my users shell to Bash from the default sh but I may return who knows ? I've still loads to configure and work out though but I am a very happy girl to have gotten this far. #RunBSD
A couple of days in trying to make OpenBSD as a laptop / desktop system has given me interesting issues.
Currently the xfce desktop dumps core as soon as I try to click the menu. Not that great haha. Reading up on this, I've learned that the OpenBSD community is more into window managers like cwm, twm and fvwm. Tried them all this morning. This is just not for me ...
So, I did a small walkthrough of the other BSD websites and figured that FreeBSD would be my next logical step, if the Thinkpad hardware seems to be well supported ...
Because I caught covid the other day and my radius is at the moment a room with around 8m², so I won't infect my wife, who is treated for cancer, and looking out of the window watching the animals and the birds is nice for a time or so, I started to look for some distraction....
I got my aux notebook and thought I could play some retro adventure games.
I saw there's a fan sequel to broken sword called #brokensword25. It's completely free and is pretty decent so far. Even has voice acting. Some animations seem to be missing. Anyway, it's a true nod in the direction of brokensword 1 &2, which were imho the best parts of the series.
Currently I have a bridge that bastille created for jails which I then went and imported into vm-bhyve. I'm just curious how others have let jails and virtual machines share a single interface.
This weekend I'm planning to make my self hosted #snac instance live and hopefully I don't unintentionally DDoS my own fibre connection. It's running in a #Bastille jail on my #FreeBSD server Beastie. I still have some customisation to do with CSS for the theme but I'm just interested to see how much load this'll put on my FTTP 1G / 110Mb connection. If all goes well I may well migrate permanently to my own hosted #ActivityPub server ? 🤔 #HomeLab
Did you know that #FreeBSD can run a lot of #Linux software directly (without running Linux in a VM)? The Linuxulator is a compatibility layer that provides an implementation of many Linux interfaces available to userland programs.
