   A couple of days in trying to make OpenBSD as a laptop / desktop system has given me interesting issues.

   Currently the xfce desktop dumps core as soon as I try to click the menu. Not that great haha. Reading up on this, I've learned that the OpenBSD community is more into window managers like cwm, twm and fvwm. Tried them all this morning. This is just not for me ...

   So, I did a small walkthrough of the other BSD websites and figured that FreeBSD would be my next logical step, if the Thinkpad hardware seems to be well supported ...

     @systeemkabouter this is weird, xfce should work fine. Even GNOME works fine.

     which OpenBSD did you use?

     @systeemkabouter syncthing can use a LOT of files, I had to bump my limits to 50 000 once, I also had to increase the sysctl about maximum files too because the default is quite low (around 14k IIRC)

     @solene this is OpenBSD 7.6. I tried doing something with the number of open files after installing/configuring syncthing. But maybe I made some error. I will try to remedy this in single user mode.

     @solene how do you get to 50k files, when there appears to be a 7030 files kernel limit?

     @systeemkabouter if you want to be sure this is the problem, do not start syncthing early and see if xfce works fine

     @solene Ok set everything to 32k files, hopefully this will keep the errors away and syncthing / xfce happy. Thanks for you support!
