As the #ClimateCrisis forces people to abandon their land in #Rajasthan, a new industry has sprung up in the desert state, with thousands of gaily decorated vans setting off to sell ice-cream across the country. #ClimateChange
Next to GHG emissions, agriculture is the major cause for transgression of #PlanetaryBoundaries, critical to #Earth's stability. 💥
But #farmers are joining the backlash against the EU's #GreenDeal and national environmental regulations: demanding fossil subsidies, curbing of nature restoration, limits to animal welfare and less regulation of nitrogen pollution and pesticides.
Do farmers expect to win an economic race to the bottom? More exploitation is not the answer. It's not sustainable. 🤔
if anyone can disabuse me of my layperson's view that french farmers are being whiny, myopic little bitches who want to keep abusing animals & the planet instead of being good environmental custodians, i welcome you to do so. #france#farmersProtest#agriculteursEncolere#farmers
#Farmers accused the new Polish government of failing to defend them against Ukrainian #GrainImports, but also demanded a series of financial support measures. Saturday's deal finally implemented those financial demands but didn't include restrictions on #Ukraine imports. #TruckersBlockade
"We…publicly call on John Deere to immediately resolve all of its outstanding GPL violations…by providing complete source code…that the GPL & other copyleft licenses require, to the farmers & others who are entitled to it."
Yesterday I went to the nearby farmers market I used to frequent. Haven’t been in years, since before Covid. Went without a mask, first time maskless in public (other than walks in the neighborhood) since early 2020. How strange!
The farmers market has changed, no longer a charming group of local farmers and vendors. Now, commercial food stalls have taken over. The small-town, neighborhood feel is gone. I probably won’t go back. #farmers#FarmersMarket#change#today
More on the egg pricing crisis. I have already covered how egg companies have price gouged us -- we had a bird flu in 2015, comparable number of bird deaths, and prices doubled then and quadrupled now.
Well, I do not want to suggest a conspiracy theory, but chicken farmers have recently reported more eggs (greater fertility) when switching from corporate feed to local feed (see the TikTok below). And this does strike me as something that should be rigorously investigated -- by the FDA and any other authorities. If Purina and others have altered their feed, and were aware of the effects on chicken fertility, thus driving egg prices up -- possibly in collusion with the price gouging -- well, then this is a HUGE story.
